President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga and President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, did not shake hands in the traditional dinner hosted Monday night by U.S. President Barack Obama, in the honor of heads of all states attending the UN General Assembly sessions.

“Koha Ditore” reports that Jahjaga and Nikolic, as well as all the representatives of other countries participating in the dinner, their only appearance before the media they had separately, shaking hands with the U.S. President and his first Lady.  Developments inside the room where leaders were staying have been closed to the media.

Newspaper sources within the Kosovo delegation confirmed that Jahjaga and Nikolic did not shake hands, due to the absence of the media, but also because “there was no specific request of international diplomats.”

However Serbia’s president, Nikolic, in a statement for Serbian agency B92 said that “it was out of question to shake hands with any Pristina representative, either Atifete Jahjaga or Hashim Thaci who are staying in New York as guests.”

International diplomats had announced that there was a possibility that the new Serbia’s President, who is rejecting meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, to meet  President Jahjaga, thus marking the first greeting between leaders of the two countries since independence, koha reports.
