Brussels, October, 19 – A meeting could be held on Friday in the European Union headquarters in Brussels that can have historical epithet, the “Koha Ditore” reports, if the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, succeeds to arrange a meeting, no matter how short, between Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.
Baroness Ashton’s spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic through an email informed journalists that on Friday Baroness Ashton will have two bilateral meetings in the afternoon in the frame of the “Dialogue facilitated by the EU” , one with Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, and one with Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. “The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the way forward in the dialogue facilitated by the EU”, it was said in a statement distributed by the EU High Representative spokesperson.
Some EU diplomatic sources have asserted that if Thaci – Dacic meeting is realized, it will mark an important step in the relationship between “Belgrade and Pristina,” they said. According to European diplomats, particularly for this meeting expected to be held on Friday, it was important that the Kosovo Assembly on Thursday issued a resolution in support of dialogue and normalization of relations with Serbia. Diplomats who contacted the “Koha Ditore” have welcomed Kosovo’s readiness for dialogue, but did not want to comment on the content of the resolution.
Continuation or the beginning of the dialogue at the highest political level is several- month demand of the international community and not just of the European Union. Even NATO, according to diplomatic sources, is very interested in having a dialogue as soon as possible to address the problems of northern Kosovo, because of political problems the KFOR operation is overburdened in northern Kosovo.
