Social media has given rise to the new type of politician, and those who have embraced social media have received more attention and kudos from the public.

While the local elections in Kosovo are planned to be organized during the 3rd November this year, different social media channels are getting busier every day, with politicians reaching out for votes through tweets, Facebook pages & profiles, videos on YouTube, etc.



While this happens every year and in different approached it is worth mentioning that this year the competition is tougher and more professional, with “Vetvendosje” leading in a professionally organized social media strategy, whereas each candidate has an own Facebook page for example Shpend Ahmeti for Prishtina, Faruk Muja for Mitrovica or Arbërie Nagavci for Gjakova, and they all use the same design for the cover picture with the proper city name, they have a profile description about the candidate and publish constantly what’s going on, there are albums for respective municipal candidates with a streamlined background and positioning and the main Facebook page of Vetvendosje with over 166,000 likes, constantly shares what is going around each municipality. This clearly shows that there is a professional team working behind and making sure that each and every one is represented professionally and accordingly at least on Facebook. As for Twitter, there is only a small fraction of Vetvendosje that is active, and it looks like the main channel of focus will be Facebook.

Vetvendosje also has managed to publish some interesting and modernly designed graphics like the map of urban transport in Prishtina or other related graphics/infographics.


The Strong Party 


“Partia e Fortë” or “The Strong Party” which has a Facebook page with over 13,750 likes, is a new party that emerged this year and claims (sarcastically) that nothing needs changing in Kosovo, which according to them developing perfectly, and on the other hand through sarcasm and satire they have managed to get quite some support from the youth and they are competing only for Prishtina. They are very active on Facebook and Twitter as well, and have daily updates going towards the users, which are active in commenting and liking back as well. Averagely a status has over 100 likes, and at least 2 or 3 shares.  The Strong party has a unique logo with the double-headed eagle and strong arms, which has been for quite some time the cover picture of profile picture of many users on Facebook.
