Vetëvendosje Movement MP Valon Ramadani, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Media, stated that in the Public Television of Kosovo (RTK) out of 11 members only 4 of them have a mandate. According to him, the Assembly of Kosovo should appoint the new board of RTK as soon as possible with professional and non-partisan people, as has been the case so far, Kosova Post reports.
He has guaranteed that the competitions will be with maximum transparency for the whole process of selecting new competitions in this public medium.
The Public Media Board of the Republic of Kosovo (RTK) has 11 members. But currently, only 4 members are still in office. While 7 seats are vacant due to the end of the mandate. Practically, RTK does not have a functional board for decision-making and to carry out the supervision required by the Law and the founder, the Assembly of Kosovo.
Many citizens are rightly waiting and have asked me when the RTK issue will be addressed. Many of them have also called on the Government, BUT:
I want to clarify to the public that RTK as a public medium is supervised by the Assembly and the board is elected by the same institution. This is the responsibility of the Assembly of Kosovo. So far, due to the interests of party conjunctures, we have had and still have boards that serve the very narrow interests of the exponents of the old power rather than the general public.
RTK needs to change its approach to the public and, above all, to the professional standards of the mission that journalism and fair information have in a society. It needs to do proper reporting and it needs a real-time scan. There has been no audit by the National Audit Office since 2015 in this institution, and the annual work report has not been approved by the Assembly for years due to major shortcomings. Countless reports of misuse of past budgets (12 million euros per year), fictitious contracts, contracts for renting cars at absurd prices, contracts for also fictitious employment for persons who do not even appear in the job position or for persons who do not have no connection to the position they hold, discrimination and obstruction of the work of journalism, production, and information technology staff,;
There was also an unprecedented decision where the former quorum board allegedly voted for the one who now exercises the functions of Director General. The case is being addressed to the judiciary, although still unanswered.
Deep reforms need to be made in RTK. The first step of this reform should be the new board, new audit and investigations in this public institution.
The Ministry of Finance and Transfers, as far as it is competent, has established a rule (and is applying it, in the legal request for submission every three months by the management of RTK of regular financial reports.
Therefore, I invite every professional and professional person and connoisseur of the fields related to the sciences of mass communication, journalism, jurisprudence and especially auditing, that in each future competition of RTK, which should be transparent and open ( not a secret secret – as it has been so far), to apply and follow the legal procedures, both from Kosovo and also from the WAY that once and for all this public medium is run by people who will serve the general good and public education.
As members of the Assembly, as Vice President of the Parliamentary Commission, where we are together with MPs Arbëreshë Kryeziu Hyseni and Agon Batusha as representatives of the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement, we guarantee that we will ensure maximum transparency for the entire selection process and new competitions in this public medium.
RTK will be released.
