The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, on Thursday decreed the last judges of the Constitutional Court, thus completing the composition of nine members. The composition of the highest institution that is called to interpret the Constitution, for the first time in its history has only local judges, writes today Koha Ditore.
The new judges of the Constitutional Court are: Bajram Latifi, Safet Hoxha, Remzije Istrefi-Peci, Nexhmi Rexhepi. Among those sentenced is Radomir Laban, who, according to media reports from Belgrade, is on INTERPOL’s list at Serbia’s request. The Serbian state has sentenced him to six years in prison on corruption charges. In 2011, Laban was found guilty by a court in Serbia of bribery.
Serbia sent a request to EULEX last year for Laban’s arrest, but the mission said it had no mandate to make such an arrest.
However, according to a statement issued by the Office of the President of Kosovo, the decrees had previously passed all procedures in accordance with applicable law and “their names had been reviewed by the Special Commission for the Selection of Candidates for Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, after the conduct of the secret ballot procedures held in the plenary sessions of the Assembly ”… (You can read the full article in today’s issue of Koha Ditore)
