In the third round of voting in the Assembly of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani managed to get 71 votes, thus being officially elected the new president of Kosovo.
38-year-old politician Vjosa Osmani is officially the new president of Kosovo. In the third round of voting she managed to get 71 votes. Eleven votes were invalid. The other candidate for the presidency opposite Osman was Nasuf Bejta, who did not get any votes.
Her election took place in the third round of voting in the 120-seat parliament. In the first two rounds she did not secure the number of 80 votes, as provided by the Constitution of Kosovo.
Osmani was part of the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, until June 2020 when it refused to support the then government led by Avdullah Hoti.
In the February 14 elections in Kosovo, Osmani received more votes than any other candidate in the country – over 300,000. She briefly held the post of incumbent president after Hashim Thaci resigned on November 5th to face war crimes charges at the Kosovo Specialized Chambers in The Hague.
