The European Parliament Rapporteur on Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, welcomed the US Treasury Department’s decision to include corruption networks in Europe on the sanctions list, including the Zvonko-led organized crime group in northern Kosovo. Veselinovic.
Speaking to the newspaper “Bota sot”, the German MEP said that this decision is an important step in the fight against organized crime.
“US sanctions against the gang of Zvonko Veselinovic and Milan Radoicic in northern Kosovo are a very important and delayed step in the fight against organized crime,” said von Cramon.
She has shown that the gang of Zvonko Veselinovic and Milan Radojicic have committed corrupt and criminal acts in the north, through large tenders and drug smuggling.
“Their activities are well documented as they are abusing the system gaps in the north to carry out their corrupt and criminal actions, mainly by taking large infrastructure tenders or smuggling drugs,” said the rapporteur for Kosovo in the EP. .
While announcing that this decision by the US has been prepared for a long time, von Cramon warned that the list of those sanctioned in Kosovo and the Western Balkans will be longer. According to her, the European Union should follow this practice, like the EU.
“Sanctions have been being prepared for some time and I believe this is only the first step as the list of corrupt figures from the Western Balkans should be much longer. “Indeed, the EU must also pursue this and introduce its package of smart sanctions against all individuals who undermine the rule of law and carry out corrupt activities in Mitrovica and throughout Kosovo and the Western Balkans.” Cramon.
